Laboratory Services :
o To begin with, the patient care services were provided under ‘The Central Laboratory’ (2013) The designated ‘24×7 Pathology Laboratory’ under ‘Integrated Essential Laboratory Services’ commenced in the year 2017.
o The department offers 24×7 state of art histopathology, cytopathology, hematology and clinical pathology patient care services.

External Quality Assurance Scheme (EQAS) :
o The laboratory is enrolled with the External Quality Assurance Programmes by Christian Medical College (CMC), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH), thereby ensures strict quality assurance.
Academic Initiatives :
o The department aims to provide high level academics by creating an interactive learning atmosphere that encourages students to actively participate and unleash their creativity
o The undergraduate teaching programs are being constantly updated and refreshed to meet knowledge and skill sets currently required of trainees based on Competence Based Medical Education (CBME).
Elective Posting in Pathology :
o In accordance with National Medical Council guidelines, Phase 3 Part I professional year students are posted for 1 week in each of Hematology, Clinical Pathology, Cytology and Histopathology (totally 1 month)
o The students are allowed to observe the various tests being done, assist the lab technicians in important tests and perform them under supervision
o16 undergraduate medical students from 2017-18 were trained in pathology
o They were encouraged to present projects on CBC analyzer, Prothrombin Time (PT), Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (APTT), Urine Analysis, Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology, Fluid Cytology, Peripheral Smear Examination and Histopathology.
Special academic achievements
of the Dept.
o CME on Tuberculosis Updates was conducted by the Department of Pathology on 15th June 2023.
o Integrated CME included lectures from various broad specialties, comprising of 6 internal speakers & one external speaker from Government Vellore Medical College
o About 350 participants attended the CME & got benefitted from the programme which covered all aspects of Tuberculosis
o The CME was awarded with 10 credit points by TNMGRMU & 2 Credit hours by TNMC.
Special academic achievements
of the Dept. :
o As an attempt to provide a platform to unleash the potentials and ignite the young minds, the Department of the Pathology organized an workshop, Haematology Exhibit Parade on 7th Dec’ 2023 for the Undergraduates.
o The Undergraduate students were separated into 10 groups, with 10 members in each group.
o Haematology topics with clinical importance were selected and each group was allotted separate topics.
o The students showcased their posters, supported by charts and models.
o They were judged and awarded prizes based on their performance.
o The exhibit provided an opportunity for the undergraduates to exhibit their creativity and received immense appreciation from the dignitaries, judges, faculties of various departments and other students.
