Functioning as Taluk Hospital since 1950 in the erstwhile combined North Arcot District, further it was upgraded into District Head Quarters Hospital status in 1989, when Tiruvannamalai Samburavayar District was formed.
From 1-4-2012 the hospital was functioning under Directorate of Medical Education and was renamed as Government Thiruvannamalai Medical College and Hospital. After proper Medical Council of India’s approval and The Tamil Nadu Dr.MGR Medical University’s affiliation, students were admitted from the batch of 2013-2014.
College block is constructed in such a manner to accommodate all Pre and Para clinical departments like Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Social & Preventive Medicine and Forensic Medicine. All departments are provided with fully furnished facilities as per NMC norms for 100 MBBS students per year, with adequate Lecture Halls and adequately equipped Laboratory. An updated Central library with internet facility (E-Consortium) is available, which is a great boon for our students and faculties.
Apart from these, the college has an auditorium with a capacity of 1000 seats and a spacious Examination Hall. Well-equipped lecture halls with smart class facility are also available inthe college.
The hospital buildings are functioning with all basic speciality and some super speciality departments, which includes General medicine, Paediatrics, Respiratory medicine, Dermatology, Psychiatry, General surgery, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology,
Oto-rhinolaryngology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Anaesthesiology, Radiodiagnosis, Dental surgery, Emergency medicine, Blood bank, Physical medicine & rehabilitation, Nephrology, Cardiology and Radiation oncology.
This institution has functional bed strength of about 500, with Annual Undergraduate medical education – MBBS admission of 100 seats. Tamil Nadu Accident and Emergency Care Initiative (TAEI) runs 24/7 with fully furnished equipments and staff team.
We have the credit of achieving the standards of the NABH accreditation – Entry level, first among all the Government medical colleges in India. Further, we have received LaQshya certification for quality of care in the departments of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Anaesthesia.
Our college has been sanctioned and training 30 Post graduation seats per year in the following departments.
